Abstract

This research work focuses on analyzing if the term 'tourism-phobia' responds to Palma city's overcrowding due to tourism. The goal is to compare the social collectives criticism in Palma with the already published studies and the situation that exist in other European cities with the misnamed 'tourism-phobia'. The reasons behind the performances carried by Arran (root or base in catalan), two of them prosecuted by the law, are explained. The causes of tourism oversaturation are analyzed from the point of view of current researchers and it is related to the use that the term tourism-phobia has had in the Media. The causes of the extension of the use of the term in the Media promoted by the two great economic philosophies faced with the tourist business are analyzed: liberalism and modern Marxism. An in-depth study is made of the variables that affect the quality of life of residents in the city of Palma. In the field work, the empirical part has been dedicated to finding the reasons why there is a feeling of loss of the quality of life of the residents, due to overt-tourism.
