Abstract

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND. Low back pain is one of the most prevalent in the western countries. Between 80-85% of the cases are non-specific and of these between 4-7% become chronic. AIMS. To determine the effectiveness of a physical therapy rehabilitation exercise program through the pre-activation of the transverse abdominal in Primary Care patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain. METHOD. Randomized controlled trial with 35 patients, 16 in the Intervention group where a program of stabilization exercises was applied, and 19 in the Control group following the conventional treatment. RESULTS. The Intervention group improved significantly in terms of pain intensity, disability and the TrA activation capacity. The Control group showed no significant differences. The Intervention group showed significant improvements for the same variables with respect to the Control group. CONCLUSIONS. The implementation of a program of pre-activation exercises of the TrA is more effective than the conventional treatment for the variables evaluated in adult patients with CNLBP.
