Resumen
Perilipin (PLIN) family members are located in the membrane of lipid droplets and play a role regulating lipolysis. In this study a SNP in exon 2 of the PLIN1 gene (GU461315:G.184G>A) and a SNP at the 3’ UTR region of the PLIN2 gene (GU461317:G.98G>A) were evaluated as candidates for an association analysis with growth and carcass traits in pigs. A total of 268 pedigree-referenced Duroc barrows were genotyped. No evidence of association was found for the SNP at PLIN1 but the SNP at PLIN2 proved to be consistently associated to growth and carcass traits, predominantly at earlier ages. In particular, allele A had a probability greater than 0.95 of having a positive additive effect on live body weight (2.0 kg) and backfat thickness(0.31 mm), as well as on carcass lean growth at 205d (0.90 kg) and ham weight (0.13 kg). By contrast, allele A is significantly associated to decrease the intramuscular fat content, both in the gluteus medius and longissimus dorsimuscles. Thus, It is concluded that the SNP GU461317:G.98G>A at PLIN2 can be a potential useful marker for growth and carcass traits in Duroc.
